Kerala Blasters defender Prabir Das has joined Mumbai City FC on loan for the remainder of the Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 season. The two-time ISL champion with ATK and I-League winner with Mohun Bagan had a challenging stint at Kerala Blasters after moving on a free transfer from Bengaluru FC ahead of the 2023-24 campaign.

Injuries severely limited his playing time at Kerala Blasters over two seasons. During his first season, Das made eight appearances, but in the ongoing season, he featured in just one match—a 4-2 loss against his former club Bengaluru FC.

How Does This Transfer Help Mumbai City FC?

Mumbai City FC, currently seventh in the ISL 2024-25 standings, is under pressure to secure a playoff spot. By bringing in Prabir Das, coach Petr Kratky adds versatility to his squad. Primarily a right-back or right wing-back, Das can also cover the left flank, offering tactical flexibility for formations like a back three or five.

While Hmingthanmawia Ralte (Valpuia) has been solid defensively this season, his limited attacking contributions have affected the team’s width on the right flank. Prabir Das’s ability to make overlapping runs and deliver accurate crosses could enhance Mumbai’s attacking dynamics.

Moreover, Das’s arrival eases the burden on captain Lallianzuala Chhangte, who has struggled with form due to opposition teams frequently doubling up on him defensively. With Das contributing in attack, Mumbai City FC can become more unpredictable and tactically diverse, boosting their chances of a strong finish this season.

This move not only benefits Mumbai City FC by strengthening their squad but also gives Prabir Das a chance to revive his form and gain valuable playing time.
