In a significant development for Indian football, Head Coach Igor Stimac has put forth a compelling case for allowing players of Indian origin to represent the national football team. The Citizenship Act of 1955 and the Constitution of India do not permit dual citizenship, making it mandatory for OCI and PIO cardholders to surrender their foreign passports and reside in India for at least 12 months to be eligible for an Indian passport. This legal constraint forces footballers of Indian origin to make a challenging decision regarding which country to represent.
