The All India Football Federation’s (AIFF) Technical Committee convened virtually on Saturday, February 10, 2024, to conduct a comprehensive review of the Indian Men’s National Team’s performance at the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023. Led by Technical Committee chairperson Mr. IM Vijayan and attended by esteemed members including Acting Secretary General Mr. M Satyanarayan, the committee engaged in discussions with Senior Men’s National Team head coach Igor Stimac, along with other key stakeholders.

The meeting served as a platform to assess the team’s journey, acknowledging both the triumphs and the challenges encountered on the field. Acting Secretary General Mr. Satyanarayan lauded the dedication of the players amidst the highs and lows witnessed over the past year. He emphasized the imperative of nurturing talent at the grassroots level to fortify the foundation of Indian football and ensure sustained success in the future.

Mr. Vijayan echoed this sentiment, steering the focus towards upcoming fixtures rather than dwelling on past outcomes. He emphasized the significance of maximizing results in the forthcoming matches scheduled within the March and June FIFA windows. With unwavering determination, the committee pledged to support Coach Stimac and the team in their pursuit of excellence on the field.

Coach Igor Stimac underscored the critical nature of the impending FIFA World Cup Qualifiers, particularly the clashes against Afghanistan in March and the subsequent home encounter against Kuwait in June. These fixtures carry profound implications, potentially determining India’s advancement into Round 3 of the Asian Qualifiers and securing direct entry into the AFC Asian Cup 2027.

Reflecting on the successful away victory against Kuwait, Coach Stimac articulated the team’s unwavering commitment to securing crucial points in the upcoming matches. The impending duels against Afghanistan and Kuwait on home turf represent pivotal junctures in India’s footballing journey, demanding meticulous preparation and unwavering determination.

In a significant development, Acting Secretary General Mr. Satyanarayan revealed the keen interest expressed by three state associations – Maharashtra (WIFA), Odisha (FAO), and West Bengal (IFA) – in hosting the World Cup Qualifier against Kuwait on June 6. While discussions are ongoing, the AIFF remains committed to selecting the most suitable venue to ensure optimal conditions for the team’s performance.

The convergence of the Technical Committee, coaching staff, and administrative authorities underscores the collective commitment towards advancing Indian football to greater heights. With a blend of strategic planning, grassroots development initiatives, and unwavering support, the AIFF endeavors to propel the nation’s footballing aspirations onto the global stage, one match at a time. As the journey unfolds, the nation stands united in its fervent support for the Men’s National Team, heralding a new era of footballing glory and triumph.
